John (Jay) Hawkins passed peacefully at home on June 27, 2021.
Hawkins was President and CEO (third generation) of Waterlox Coatings Corp., a business started by his grandfather and continuing with the fourth generation of Kellie and Conor. He served as president of the Cleveland Paint and Coatings Association in 1984, guiding their endeavors in charitable projects in Cleveland.
After retirement, Hawkins, wife Dee, and furry friend Junior embarked on a “C the US” tour of national parks in every state in the lower 48. Besides being an avid skier and competitive sailor, Hawkins loved being a father and volunteered as Cub Scout leader, a coach for youth soccer and T-ball, and EWYC youth sailing director. He was instrumental in promoting the junior sailor travel series and lending boats, tutelage, and support to women’s sailing.
Donations may be made in his honor to Edgewater Youth Sailing Foundation (EYSF), APL, Holiday Valley Ski Patrol, or Hospice of the Western Reserve.
